Global Tribe Experience

A visit to ‘The Vision 2025 Wycliffe Discovery Centre’ offers an exciting and unique learning opportunity for schools to learn about the history of Bible translation, and the present work of Wycliffe through a tour of the exhibition, and arts workshops.

cre8.ed offers Arts-based RE and Citizenship days for primary and secondary pupils.
cre8.ed also offers a Post-16 Citizenship/RE conference which explores the theme of Global Tribe through the interactive tour, discussion and creative workshops.

The tour includes colourful, interactive exhibits and hands-on activities designed for pupils. Dependant on age group these include:

  • Worksheets with fact files, activities and questions linked to the displays
  • Practical games and activities including matching games, translation games, jig saws, dressing up in African village clothing,
  • Printing individual names in 12 different alphabets,
  • Living cross-culturally through the Translation Daze game,
  • Learn about the history of the Bible and its authenticity through audio dramas.

Practical workshops run alongside the tour led by the cre8.ed – Creative Resources in Education* team of artists. A fast-paced day with artistes leading schools through a varied programme of activities.

The workshops are designed to meet Curriculum links in Citizenship, PSHE, Literacy (drama/storytelling), PE (dance), music and art, and meet Religious Education guidelines. National Curriculum links - Global Tribe Worshops

They will help students learn new arts skills, gain an understanding of different cultures and challenge their awareness of their role in the local and global community. In addition pupils will have fun in all they learn.

Visual Art Workshop

These sessions explore non-verbal communication and may include paper making, 3D work and mixed media responding to the fascinating work of Wycliffe in Australia, Africa and Siberia.

Music Workshop

These explore the innovative work of Wycliffe ethnomusicologists (those studying ethnic music around the world). How are diverse world cultures and the language of music used in expressing faith? Pupils will reflect upon music as a means of communication and interest with instruments from Africa.

Movement Workshop

Students will explore the ground- breaking Wycliffe translation work with the Basketo tribe in Ethiopia. Using real life examples and creative responses, pupils explore how they could make meaningful connections with people who do not share their language, cultures and customs. Some workshops will even develop a unique Bible translation of their own!

Storytelling Workshop

The links between the biblical creation story and the creation stories of ancient civilisations are explored in this workshop. Pupils will learn of the challenges facing Wycliffe Translators as they make connections with the cultures they are working with and the challenge of understanding new ways of describing familiar ideas. Translation is more than choosing the right words- to translate effectively requires a deep understanding of the stories and the culture of those who speak the language. Pupils will have the opportunity to weave the concepts of one people’s stories with the biblical creation story.

Post Sixteen Conference

Our post-16 conference offers an exciting and thought provoking day exploring issues relating to the work of the Wycliffe Bible Translators and Oxfam’s definition of Global Citizenship. Participants will be challenged to respond creatively to these issues to produce exciting and innovative art work combining a range of media and techniques using 2 and 3 dimensions. This session will fulfil statutory and non- statutory attainment targets in Citizenship Art and RE.

“I now realise that what I do, or particularly what I buy may have an impact on someone else the other side of the world. So if it is positive for me, it may be negative for someone else.”
